Nikhil P. Yerawadekar & Low Mentality
Nikhil P. Yerawadekar & Low Mentality
Multi-instrumentalist and producer Nikhil P. Yerawadekar creates propulsive new flavors with his Low Mentality project, delivering personal and uplifting original songs suitable for dancefloors, car stereos and headphones worldwide. The group plays organically cultivated styles drawing from Nikhil’s wide range of experiences, from his formative years as a teenage hip-hop junkie in Queens, NY, to later in his life when he found himself working closely with artists such as Hailu Mergia (Awesome Tapes From Africa), Zap Mama, Tony Allen, Cedric “Im” Brooks and Khaira Arby, and performing all over the world with Antibalas and collaborators such as Santigold, Sharon Jones, Billy Gibbons, Nels Cline and Esperanza Spalding.

The hidden intersections between these broad-ranging musical vibrations are reflected in Low Mentality’s debut album Everything Lasts Forever, released April 2016 on 3rd Generation Recordings, with its lead single “Six Shooter AKA The History Of Dance” (featuring Kendra Morris) reaching over a million plays on Spotify.

Low Mentality starts off the year 2018 with a new lineup featuring Mayteana Morales (Pimps Of Joytime), Carter Yasutake (Midnight Magic, LCD Soundsystem), Jeremy Wilms (Chin Chin) and Andy Bauer (Twin Shadow), having developed a new live show concept for the mind, body and soul.
Kaleta & Super Yamba Band
Kaleta & Super Yamba Band
Brooklyn Afro-Funksters Kaleta & Super Yamba Band are fronted by Afrobeat veteran Leon Ligan-Majek a.k.a. Kaleta. The composer, singer, guitarist, percussionist and producer from the West African country of Benin Republic lived his adolescent life in Lagos, Nigeria where Afrobeat was born. Kaleta performed and toured the world with the two most popular musicians from Nigeria, Fela Kuti and King Sunny Ade, along with Majek Fashek and recently Lauryn Hill.

Now based in New York City, Kaleta was overjoyed to find Super Yamba Band and hear their take on the vintage, psychedelic sounds of his native country Benin in the 70s and 80s. Super Yamba takes its cues from artists like Orchestre Poly-Rythmo, El Rego and Gnonnas Pedro, all legends in their own right for pioneering the classic styles of Afro-Funk in Benin. Touching on rare grooves such as "Vodoun" and "Sato," Super Yamba Band have dialed in the nuances of a timeless sound that will move everyone in the room to dance! Kaleta sings in several different languages native to West Africa including Fon, Goun, Yoruba and Ewe, along with French and Pidgin English, "the official language of Afrobeat" he says with a grin.

Kaleta got his start in the late 70s performing in church and was soon after picked up by iconic Juju master and world music pioneer King Sunny Ade. A few years later Fela Kuti came calling. Kaleta would go on to tour the world playing guitar for the King of Afrobeat in his band Egypt 80 through the 1980s and into the 1990s.

Super Yamba Band's live performances with Kaleta are absolutely explosive. Afropop Worldwide said "their ace-up-the-sleeve: the singer Kaleta, whose James Brown grunts have got to be some of the best in the business." With Kaleta at the helm Super Yamba Band have recently erupted onto stages at Paste Magazine's Emerging Music Festival, World Music Institute's Masters Of African Music Series, Secret Planet APAP Showcase 2018, Felabration NYC 2017, and more, giving audiences an unforgettable experience of world-class Afro-Funk dance music.
KISSEY
KISSEY
Stockholm-raised, NYC-based artist KISSEY vibrates a charge of high voltage in her performances and original productions. Or, as i-D put it, "Manhattan's electric energy and robotic precision is tangible in her beats, the unsettling edge and sensuality of Brooklyn nights are present in her vocals, [and] Harlem's all-out balls-to-the-wall attitude carries through her live performances." KISSEY has left her mark on Sundance film soundtracks, GUCCI, Givenchy runway shows, and a diverse catalog of remixes for the likes of DFA soulman Sinkane and underground rap diva Cakes Da Killa. As her latest solo release Unplug The Delusional Monkey (helmed by iconic producers Sean C and LV) makes clear, we can rest assured that there’s no one else on the globe making music quite like her.

"A rarity in pop music, KISSEY’s music is accessible while not really sounding like anything else out there at the moment." - HIGH SNOBIETY

"Released on Brooklyn’s Fools Gold, her Unplug the Delusional Monkey EP definitely takes the prize for the strangest album title of the year, but comes away with a fresh take on electronica and hip-hop." - OUT
