Aldous Harding - (Set time: 10:40 PM)
Aldous Harding's music is not for the faint of heart. Disarming in its desolate imagery and stark instrumentation, it deals with the raw materials of life: death, birth, grief and love. There are few happy endings, but the power is in how Harding enters into battle; with a dancer's grace and a boxer's stance.

Sometimes reminiscent of 60s-era folk singers Vashti Bunyan and Linda Perhacs, Harding's work lies in more harsh terrain than her forebears – piercing the long history of the genre with a grit and sincerity rarely encountered. Somewhat out of step with the 21st Century, Aldous' music is accompanied by wry wit and tenacious gall that will see her become a true stayer in the music world.

Hailing from New Zealand's Southern port town of Lyttelton, Aldous has received attention and accolades from some of the most illustrious corners of the music industry. Her self-titled debut album received 4 stars in MOJO and Uncut, while UK blog The 405 hailed her a "toweringly talented song writer."

"Compelling, gothic-folk first from NZ newcomer." – UNCUT (four stars)
"Soft chanting and singing saws add mystery to a beguiling debut." – MOJO (four stars)
"Harding wrestles every last drop of macabre intent." – Silent Radio (10 out of 11)
Happyness - (Set time: 9:50 PM)
Happyness release their self-produced debut album - “Weird Little Birthday” – in June. The album follows their eponymous debut EP released at the beginning of this year, to great critical acclaim. The album is not quite a concept album about a boy who shares his birthday with Jesus Christ and eventually is driven insane with jealousy. It was largely recorded in the band’s own Jelly Boy Studios, after a brief session recording first track “Baby, Jesus (Jelly Boy)” in an abandoned church was cut short by the bitter cold and an unconvinced congregation of the dead. The record was mixed by Adam Lasus (Yo La Tengo, Daniel Johnston) and features Ed Harcourt with vocals on “Pumpkin Noir”.

The EP drew comparisons with bands synonymous with college slacker rock – the album, while putting the band at the forefront of, wait for it, ‘jangle-gaze’ displays a more melancholic, introspective nature. The youthful exuberance of “It’s On You” is still there, but the album expands on that sound, as if dealing with the morning after as well as the night before, and how, alas, not everything can invoke a dream house party soundtracked by Pavement.
Cones - (Set time: 9:00 PM)
Originally from the Bay Area and living in LA, the Rosen brothers (aka Cones) have been playing music together for years and just completed their debut EP Whatever You're Into. Most recently, they toured as Eleanor Friedberger's backing band across North America. Jonathan is an animator who has done videos for Toro y Moi, Delicate Steve, Eleanor Friedberger and more! His brother Michael is a commercial/film composer and experiential sound artist.
