Marissa Nadler is a songwriter from New England who has been recording and touring since 2000. Over the course of her nine studio albums, her unique voice, finger picking style, and songwriting has earned her such accolades as "one of the most absolutely haunting things you're likely to find anywhere near indie rock" (Pitchfork) and “revered among an assortment of

tastemakers.” (NPR) As a painter who trained at RISD, Nadler’s haunting, gauzy nowhere-scapes perfectly adorn the covers of some of her latest work, like 2019’s For My Crimes and Droneflower, her lauded, recent collaboration with Cave In frontman Stephen Brodsky. She’s found a perfect home alongside the artists at Sacred Bones Records, known for the visceral, dark, and cinematic.

Unlikely pairings are nothing new for Nadler; parsing her discography you are as likely to find a duet with legendary Velvet Underground member John Cale as you are an album of her voice backing black metal veteran, Xasthur. As Rolling Stone put it, “[Nadler is] capable of wringing emotion out of references to a dashboard.” In this way, Nadler has made it her signature to find tidal waves of emotion inside the smallest bodies of water. The Boston Globe once declared, "She has a voice that, in mythological times, could have lured men to their deaths at sea.”

This is deeply unique music rich in atmospheric harmonies and ambience paired with songs that evoke a surreal, hypnagogic versions of reality. If she was born a century earlier, it’s not a stretch to imagine that her vast talents would be mistaken for conjured magic. Nadler’s songs take you from the purely mundane —like a gas station rest stop where she changes her clothing in a stall—to the heights of fantasy—like the apocalyptic Divers Of The Dust, all the while maintaining the intimacy of someone utterly captivating spinning a poetic yarn in a tavern for a few gathered strangers.
