Leverage Models
Leverage Models
Leverage Models makes pop songs about transubstantiation, ritual abuse, political apathy, divorce, white collar criminals, poverty, white liberal guilt, anxiety, & self-harm. With roto-toms.

Tonight, the elusive and rarely-perofrming art-pop band praised breathlessly by Pitchfork (8.2), Spin, & The Guardian, celebrates release of its 2nd full-length album, Whites (a benefit for the Southern Poverty Law Center). Whites has been called a 'maximalist' album of "Art-pop that turns a critical eye on the world, as accessible as it is complex"(Bandcamp). "Phenomenally produced…consuming and serious" (Obscure Sound), "these songs impress with their tunefulness, ingenuity, and passion...all the while addressing potent cultural and political issues both personal and public...The music world can gain a great deal by paying close attention to this band. If they don't, well, maybe we don't deserve them." (PopMatters). The live band tonight will feature members of Helado Negro, Chrome Sparks, St. Vincent, JOBS, Tiny Hazard, and a few secret guests.
Jennifer Vanilla
Jennifer Vanilla
Jennifer Vanilla is the entrepreneurial fantasy vessel LARPed into reality by Becca Kauffman, a New York City performance artist and long standing member of the musical group, Ava Luna. Her commercial-inspired vocalizations, paired with reconstructions (or "jv edits") of 90's house tracks, draw comparisons to Laurie Anderson, Will Powers, and Ann Steel, and provide the foundation for her comedic, theatrical live performances. JV has performed alongside Yaeji, Carrie Brownstein, Cindy Wilson (The B-52's), Miho Hatori (Cibo Matto), YACHT, Dynasty Handbag, Mr. Twin Sister, and Sateen at venues such as MoMA PS1, Museum of Modern Art, Elsewhere, Revolve Gallery, Zebulon, and Bowery Ballroom. She has been a self-appointed Artist in Residence in both Times Square and Hollywood, U.S.A. Her Queens Public Television show, The Jennifer Vanilla Hour, can be viewed at youtube.com/jennifervanillatv. A contempo clown who uses attention as her business model, she'll sell you back to yourself for free. "If you're going to have a fantasy, at least make it reality. If you're going to have reality, at least make it a fantasy."
