Joyce Wrice
Joyce Wrice is a 24 year-old singer/songwriter/dog lover from San Diego, CA. Currently based in Los Angeles, Joyce effortlessly exudes that refreshing '90s R&B cool, and has the warm, sultry sound to match. To be exact, 1998 was the year a young Joyce Wrice stole her father's Tamia CD and began mimicking the vocal stylings of what would become one of her biggest musical inspirations. Joyce also credits Brandy, Monica, Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Christina Aguilera, and Usher as key musical influences.

At the urging of several high school friends, Joyce began posting Hip-Hop and R&B cover videos to YouTube when she was 17, alongside her friend, Ariel. Unexpectedly, their videos caught the attention of some of the artists whom Joyce and Ariel covered. This led to subsequent recording sessions with LA-based producer Polyester and Dom Kennedy. Through these experiences, and after graduating from Soka University of America with a degree in Liberal Arts, Joyce decided to relocate from Orange County to Los Angeles and transition from a YouTube cover singer to a solo artist with her own original material

After a steady stream of solo releases on Soundcloud and YouTube over the last few years, 2015 marked the first commercial single release with a Mndsgn and DJ Harrison-produced song titled, "Ain't No Need." It was released independently and brought with it Joyce's first-ever official music video. The "Ain't No Need" music video received critical acclaim from Ebont magazine, illroots, and tastemaker extraordinaire, Questlove.

If it wasn't for radio, Mawkus would not be a DJ. Inspired by listening to the radio growing up in Southern California, he knew at a young age he needed to be a DJ. After getting his first set of turntables at 15 and spending much of his free time in local record stores, his first real foray into DJing started on college radio in 2004, playing house music on a weekly Saturday night dance mix show.

Through his college radio roots, he later found himself working as a radio DJ at San Diego's Jazz 88.3 where he hosted and produced two weekly radio shows showcasing music from all over the world, both new and old, as well as jazz, blues, soul, funk and everything in between.

As a DJ, his deep musical aptitude found him playing alongside and opening for a plethora of world-class talent. From opening for Body High at Moustache Bar in Tijuana to more recently playing slow jams alongside the legendary Questlove at Santos Party House for LA's 143 takeover curated by Sosupersam, vibes are vibes with Mawkus.

His soft spot for slow jams found him running a weekly residency in San Diego called Sweet Cheeks alongside Soulection's Andre Power that celebrated the almighty slow jam. Eventually its popularity allowed the vibe to shared in San Francisco monthly in 2012 as well as a few one-offs at the California Academy of Sciences.

In addition to a string of features and accolades for his production work ranging from Los Angeles' KCRW to London's Rinse FM, his love for bringing people together and creating spaces for vibes that need to be heard, seen and felt moved him to produce events.

Mawkus became a fixture in San Diego for championing the underground through his radio shows, DJ sets and events he put together. Since relocating to New York in late 2014, he began working as A&R Director for FSQ, signed to Soul Clap Records. He's still found DJing regularly all over Manhattan and Brooklyn as well as all over his home state of California.
